According to a survey conducted by The Media Audit research group, 78.6% of households with annual incomes of $50,000 are more likely to access the Internet than other households with lower incomes.
This is great news for anyone considering a degree in information technology. Pursuing a degree in information technology offers students the knowledge to gain high paying jobs in various industries from ecommerce and technology, to manufacturing and retail sales.
Concentration is the Name of the Game
Information technology schools can provide students with a variety of different paths to a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. Concentrations in such disciplines as network administration, security, programming, and computer systems lead to specific careers in information technology and ecommerce. In most cases completion of an associate's degree is required for an advanced degree in information technology.
Education for Ecommerce
In addition to traditional college and university programs offering a degree in information technology, there are also a number of online programs that can provide the skills and education necessary to enter the technology field.
A wide range of courses in network architecture and design, application development, data management and design, concepts in information technology, and analytical approaches to information technology, are just a few of the things you'll learn on your way to a degree in information technology.
Degrees of Separation in Information Technology
Just as there are a number of concentrations, there are also a few different types of degrees in information technology. Here are a few of the most popular:
- Associate of Applied Science. For anyone looking for a path into the information technology field, an Associate's degree in Information Technology is the right choice. Pursuing this two-year program provides students with a practical knowledge of software, hardware, and networking. For most students, this is the first step before pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology.
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. For anyone who wants to explore career opportunities as an applications developer, programmer, Web content developer, or network specialist, this is the degree for you. Programs that lead to this degree in information technology take between 1-2 years (for associate's degree holders) or up to 4 years (without a previous degree).
- Master's Degree in Information Technology. If you're looking to advance your career in information technology, a master's degree is your ticket. In most cases, a Master's degree in Information Technology program combines the technology with business and information management courses to prepare candidates for management positions upon graduation.
Prepared for the Future
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the computer information systems industry is among the fastest growing job markets. With a degree in information technology, you can be better prepared to work in this field as well as be in a position to ascend to management positions as your experience increases.
A Master's degree in Information Technology is preferred, but a Bachelor's degree can also lead to management positions as demand for qualified information technology professionals increases. If you're ready for a challenging career, contact one of the many information technology schools in your area.
